Engaging with the library brand

Your library brand is the set of physical attributes of your library service together with the values, beliefs and expectations surrounding it. All logos, advertising and promotional materials should be designed to evoke and emphasise these features. While you may have a style guide with guidance on colours and typefaces these are only the final outcomes from your brand identity, which is based on values and beliefs.

Use your library brand to encourage all stakeholders to engage with you. The brand should be a source of pride for your staff, and commit them to providing high-quality service. Aim for your brand to engage others through familiarity, respect and trust.

Figure 7.5 shows the objectives and outcomes of a visual rebranding for a UK public library in 2019–2020.
